At Clinic Bodrum, we offer vaccinations to safeguard both adults and children from serious diseases and illnesses. Our team is dedicated to providing the necessary protection to keep you and your loved ones safe.
Rabies Vaccination
Rabies is a life-threatening disease caused by a virus that affects the nerves and brain of mammals, including humans. While rare, it can still occur in animals like dogs, cats, and monkeys that haven’t been vaccinated. The virus is transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, usually through a bite or scratch, and it can be fatal if not treated promptly.
After an animal bite or scratch:
If an unknown or potentially rabid animal bites or scratches you, it is crucial to wash the affected area with soap and water immediately and seek medical attention without delay. A healthcare provider will determine if anti-rabies treatment is necessary.
It’s important not to wait for symptoms to appear, as untreated rabies is almost always fatal. If you’ve never been vaccinated for rabies, and treatment is recommended, you will need a series of 5 injections.
In addition to the rabies vaccine, those without prior vaccination should also receive rabies immunoglobulin (either ERIG or HRIG) if exposed to the virus. This provides immediate immunity while the vaccine takes effect. The immunoglobulin is administered directly into the wound and surrounding area, ideally on the same day of exposure.
In the case of any animal bite, it is advised to see your doctor. You may also require antibiotics to prevent secondary infections and a tetanus booster, especially if you haven’t had one in the past 5-10 years.
Tetanus Vaccination
Tetanus is a serious bacterial infection that releases toxins affecting the nervous system, leading to severe muscle stiffness and spasms. Tetanus bacteria are commonly found in soil, manure, and dust, and they can enter the body through cuts, scratches, or puncture wounds from nails or sharp objects.
Most people receive the tetanus vaccine in childhood as part of the Tdap vaccine, but the protection decreases over time. It’s recommended that adults get a tetanus booster every 10 years. If you suffer a cut or puncture wound, especially if you can’t recall your last tetanus shot, a healthcare provider may recommend a booster to prevent infection.
Whether you’ve sustained a recent injury or are simply due for a booster, visit Clinic Bodrum and we’ll take care of it promptly, ensuring you’re protected and at ease.
